In our lifestyle, we can only really get out there at night for dinner or entertaining. Therefore I’m focused on lighting.
I bought some solar lights and am going to get some metal strapping to attach them to the ouside top of the deck walls so that only the top light shades show. I have some glass hurricane style candle holders also.
But the cutest thing is the old chimnea I have. You can buy fire starter blocks at Walmart. This makes it so safe to have a little fire on my dack. I’m going to set river rock underneath bordered with plastic black garden border just in case of sparks, but this stuff doesn’t spark. You can break up the logs into pieces that will only last 20 min if you know you’re not going to be outdoors long. The chimnea is going to be painted a heat resistant white. (I didn’t even know there was white in that type of spray paint!) This will be reminiscent of our honeymoon in greek islands. I’m always on the lookout for white outdoor upholstery and turquoise touches for cushions.
My deck is a mere 12 ft X 18ft. Just enough to fit a built in bar for 2, a patio set with umbrella, the BBQ and the chimnea tucked into the corner. Come on summer! Bring it on!
